Atticus Uncensored: This is for Atticus RIP
Posted by Franziska San Pedro on Dec 13, 2011 in Blog, Ideas & Inspiration | 26 commentsI had so many things in mind that I wanted to write about, all the things I’ve been working on: the last flea market in Canton where I set up my booth for the entire weekend and camped inside my husband’s truck. About all the other things: new paintings on my easel, suggestions, ideas and experience at the markets selling artwork, my expanded business and how it’s taking shape, about my new idea to buy a van, about my christmas cookie extravaganza (baked almost 1000 for all my friends) and a lot more….
But instead, I want to dedicate today’s blog post to Atticus. Most of my friends in my blogging circle knew Atticus quite well and loved his great sense of humor, his blog, his Mama Heidi, his cat sister Bella and not to forget Wilbur. Atticus had been really sick this year and the whole blogging community and all his friends prayed and sent good thoughts his way. He recovered but then he got sick again and passed away last night in his Mama’s arms.
Atticus was an English Cocker Spaniel who had his own blog: “Atticus Uncensored -Commentary to give you paws”. I always enjoyed reading them for his honest, fearless and witty stories who always made me smile and sometimes even laugh out loud! We had some heated discussions, we learned, we grew from one another but we always had one thing in common: world peace and happiness for all!
Here’s more about Atticus and his achievements (from his “About Me” section on his blog):
Name: Atticus Finch Alberti
Nicknames: Atti, BabyMan, Bubba
Birthday: August 6, 2005
Species: Canine
Breed: English Cocker Spaniel
Birth City: Victoria, BC, Canada
Family: Sister Isabella Rose (feline), brother Wilbur (canine), Mama Heidi Alberti
Occupation: Dedicated canine, undercover agent (squirrel detection), author
Philosophy: Sniff, Scamper, Snuggle (obviously plagiarized from Plato— or was that Pluto??)
Affiliations & Accomplishments:
*Member, Dogocracy (a pack—political action committee kinda— dedicated to canine issues)
*Author, “My Year in Food: 365 Mouthwatering Cat Poop Recipes”
*Founding member, NOACP /National Organization for Advancement of Canine Politicians (a long-shot, possibly, but we need to start somewhere)
*Member, Squirrel Defense Squad (2005-present)
*Voted “Most Popular”– Dog kindergarten
Atti, I know you rest in peace in dog’s heaven and I am sure you already made quite some friends up there, doing all the things you loved to do: sniffing, sleeping, eating, playing, writing and now chasing some squirrel angels.
We’ll still miss you and now we all have to make sure that Heidi knows that we all think about her and feel for her since you’re physically gone.
I am hoping she will continue your blog with your spirit in this way or another; we all love her and want to see her back whenever she is ready.

I so enjoyed reading this and it made me smile through the sadness and tears I have been experiencing since I learned about Atti’s death. I too believe he is in Heaven and doing more than well; and I trust that Heidi will be able to heal and continue what she started with Atticus to bring us joy and thoughtful discussion, and growth.
Thank you so much Donna. And thank you for your kind words for Heidi.
I truly appreciate your kind words,
Franziska

Franziska, I have no words to express how much this blog means to me. You are very dear to me.. and to Atticus. I’m so happy you had the opportunity to spend time with him and understand how special a dog he was.
I can usually express myself well with words, but at this time I’m speechless with grief and with the overwhelming abundance of goodwill & love from FOA’s. I have deep gratitude & love for you. And I Adore this picture! I don’t even remember you taking this shot. Thank you for sharing.

Dear Heidi,
you are so welcome! I know the feeling of being speechless and it was not easy because I didn’t know what to say either, so I just wrote what came to my mind. I am glad that you feel what I was trying to say, how special your little friend was and how much I feel for you.
Here’s a little story for you: you know that I had a goose, his name was Donald (I know it’s funny that someone has a pet goose! I am still smiling when I think about it). I always felt a deeper connection with Donald and when he left, I was heartbroken. He always understood and gave me unconditional love and never disappointed me. We spent hours together, he fell asleep on my lap -which is unusual for a goose, they normally don’t do stuff like this- I told him stories, I cried with him when I had problems and he even responded honking. Sometimes he just sat there and said nothing when I needed him to be quiet. I knew that he felt my energy and did exactly what I needed at that moment. We shared 10 years of our lives and then he left.
I know that Atticus was your Donald and I know about the special connection. He will come back to you; my Donald does from time to time, and then it won’t hurt any more and it will make you smile and laugh.
Much love,
Franziska

I love your goose story! 10 years is a long time to love another soul — human, dog or goose. Donald sounds very special and has many of the same attributes as Atticus.
My heart will never be whole again… a great being has been lost — just like Donald.
Again Franziska, I have the deepest gratitude for your beautiful remembrance and for your friendship. You are very dear to me. many thanks to you for just being you.

What a lovely remembrance post and picture of Atti, his Mama and Wilbur,
Like Donna I’m still finding myself crying for the poor fluffy guy and Heidi. Funny that Atticus can still make me smile even now ~ we can definitely all learn a lot from a dog who had found his inner Buddha.

Me too, I am smiling, too. I went back to Heidi’s blog and looked at all the pictures and found some posts from last year -I spent half the evening looking at stuff and reading…

I am so filled with love over this post, Franziska! Your kind and loving heart is no surprise to me. I have started a new group called Austin’s Bloggers and I have shared this post there. Hope that’s ok.
Peace and Love,
Austin/Bill
Thank you so much Austin!
And of course it is fine to share my post. You are too kind, thank you. I should check out your blogging group now
Love,
Franziska
Thank you, Franziska, for sharing more of the Atticus love and loss that many of us are feeling. Gorgeous picture, too, and I know Heidi and Wilbur are comforting each other as they both miss Atticus within their group. It’s almost incomprehensible to me that Atticus is on a different plane from us now. But his spirit is so strong! Thank you for bringing us closer to that spirit.

This was really heartfelt and thoughtful of you, Franziska. I’m really glad I read it. I’m sure Heidi appreciates it very much even while she is grieving. It’s a sad time, but what amazing testament to this awesome little guy that he can bring together so many people who most have never met in person. My heart goes out to them both.

Franziska, Your love for Heidi and Atticus is so sweet and genuine and from the heart. This was a beautiful tribute to a special animal and true friend. I am so sad for Heidi and only wish I had met Atticus in person. We were going to meet next week which, once again proves, life is so very short and can take unexpected and unwanted turns. Thank you for writing this, Franziska.

I just recently learned about Atticus and never read his blog. I now feel I must go check him out! He sounds great! And yes, his spirit can and will transcend dimensions and his voice can still be heard through Heidi and when she realizes that and has returned to some degree of balance, hopefully, we’ll all hear more from a wiser Atticus.

Hi Anna,
I appreciate your lovely comment, thank you so much! Today I cam across this (and it made me laugh; it’s silly but also charming): Dogs go to heaven I know there is a dog’s heaven because we are all connected.
I am very touched by your empathy, thank you,

Anna,

I just went to check out your blog! How interesting, I am impressed, so much cool information about dental work. My husband just had his new crown fit today, so I jumped to all the posts about it. Wondering what options there are if this is not a good idea?
Did you close the comment section? I was wanting to leave a comment

Hi Franziska, Thank you for your kind words about my blog and my not so average theme selection! Unfortunately I HAD TO CLOSE the comment session yesterday, as I received thousands (!!!) of spam comments every single day, and it was driving me nuts. Comments are going to remain closed until I figure out a good prevention against those bastards

What a lovely and touching letter dedicated to Atticus. I didn’t know him that well, but reading the stories about the happiness he brought really amazed me. I give my heartfelt condolence. Hope you can visit me here and thank you for sharing.
Hi Steve,
thank you so much for your kind words. I appreciate you leaving a warm comment & condolences here on my blog and I know so does Heidi.
Franziska
This is beautiful Franziska! I read it on Tuesday and have read it again since then. It’s such a wonderful description of Atticus and his joy, strength and love. I couldn’t bring myself to to even comment because I just dissolved into uncontrollable tears – such a deep sense of grief, personal and especially for what Heidi is going through now.
I did want to come back to let you know how beautiful this is. I also loved to follow his marvelous blog and hope that his voice will carry on, because Atticus will always be with Heidi, for the rest of her life; he will always fill her heart with joy, when she is able to allow it.
Thank you Franziska! ♥♥♥
My heartfelt condolence for the loss of your beloved Atticus. I am glad to hear that he is well loved and appreciated. Base on the post, he sounds like a very amazing pet. I pray for your recovery. Thank you for sharing.
