New Addiction For Artists, Creatives & Visuals: PINTEREST!
Posted by Franziska San Pedro on Jan 26, 2012 in Blog, Ideas & Inspiration, Living & Design | 22 commentsWho’s tried it yet? Do you have an account?
Yes, there’s another forum on the market and I am usually the one who watches the benefits first and analyzes its pros and cons. Kinda like facebook. I was on facebook when they just started and I had 5 friends for 1 1/2 years. How often did I use it? Not at all! If you have just 5 friends who post as much as you do, you can imagine how much fun that is ![]()
And then suddenly, the facebookmania started, former co-workers sent requests and an active community of old friends got reactivated.
Unfortunately, some ghosts from old times appeared too but I ignored their requests -why should I add you to my friends when we found that we had nothing in common already years ago (or you bullied me in school -I should have beaten you up back then or stolen your lunch box but I didn’t, anyways, we’re NOT friends <<----talking to the old ghosts here).
Where was I? Oh, Pinterest. Now what is it?
Pinterest is a Virtual Pinboard:
Pinterest lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes.
Best of all, you can browse pinboards created by other people. Browsing pinboards is a fun way to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests.

Woohooo!!!! This is soo exciting. Not much to read there. All you do is post beautiful pictures on your boards. Above are some of my boards.
So what do you have to do? Just go to Pinterest and request an invitation, fill out your profile and add the “Pin It” button to your bookmarks bar. Every time you see a pretty picture somewhere and you would like to save it, just click on Pin It and add it to your boards.
I have my settings public, so anyone who is on Pinterest sees my images and they can like it, comment on or repin them on their boards. And they can follow my boards, too, which appears in their streamline. And I can follow them (and you).
Absolutely genius! And for a visual person like me, there’s nothing more inspiring than other individuals who share their love for beautiful images with me and the world.
What’s also great, it links to the page where you took it from, so the person who posted or took the photo will always get the credit and be linked to. And you can share your new finds on facebook and twitter.
So are you on Pinterest? Leave your link in the comment box, so I can find you when I am pinning

What good timing for your post! I discovered Pinterest the other day. I’ve found a lot of great recipes so far. I have one board for purses ~ I found ones made with legos! (my family is Danish so I thought that was cool, except they cost $1,000 EACH).
Awesome June!
Yes, I have seen you join the community this week -I was there the day before, really cool.
How interesting the purse made from legos, amazing what you can find there! I really like the fact it’s all images -I am so drawn to those, as you can imagine!!
Thanks for you comment

I tried to stay away but finally someone suggested using it for vision boards and now I’m in! I am now creating a few boards. One for my event that I’m planning in August here in Park City. A purple theme of course…..

I love your purple themes! The boards are so great for many things, I mean you no longer have to bookmark all the sites that have cool ideas, then you mentioned it: vision boards are awesome and then it’s much fun at the same time! And having a board for a specific event like yours is something I haven’t even thought of, thanks for sharing
Franziska
I’ve heard a little bit about pinterest here and there but I couldn’t think of a compelling enough reason to register. But vision boards… That’s actually a great idea! I might just get an account now!

oh, yes it definitely is! I bookmark and copy so many sites that I like, I drag pictures for future inspiration in idea folders on my computer and it’s all getting messy and I can’t find things when I need them. Pinterest is not just fun, it’s also a very cool tool to keep images and find the sites where you grabbed them from. Very useful. This way, I no longer have to save them on my computer!!
I hope to see you there soon

This is really cool, Franziska! I find so many pics that I love and save for a rainy day. This will make it easier to find them when that rainy day comes up!
Thank you,
Austin/bill
Hi Austin,
that’s exactly what I am thinking too! I like so many images online and then I save them on my computer in various “ideas”, “inspiration”, “creativity” folders. When I am looking for something, I don’t find it or of I want to go back to the site where I got it from, I don’t have the link.. Pinterest really makes it easy to organize, share and link your favorite images!! (yes, I am excited, hahaha)
What a nice idea to look at them on a rainy day,
Franziska
I love pinterist, quick, easy and great visuals. It is so nice to see all those images then quickly access the info on the ones that interst you. I saw that last photo that you took a screenshot of. Beautiful.
Hi Becky,
nice to have you here,
isn’t it so much fun?!? And so useful too, we just gotta love pinterest!
Thanks for leaving a comment

Hi! Yes, I’ve put in for my invite – now I just need to find the time. Should I just strap this baby right to my body!?

Strap it and go for it!! You’ll love it
Can’t wait to see what you find & like on the web!

I am fast becoming the biggest Pinterest freak on the planet. What an amazing way for a visual artist to gather a million thoughts with just a few photos…or LOTS of images! I just found brain space that I never thought I had.
I’m still figuring out how to link up with other folks and feel like I’ve been lost in my own virtual scrapbook for awhile, but wow….I love it so much more than FB. Thank you Pinterest People.
Looking forward to hooking up with you there, Franziska!
Hi Janice,
I agree with you -I love it more than facebook, too!
Thanks for following me on pinterest, I have just seen you following me. And I have looked at your pin boards, pretty pretty (and followed)!!!
Sooo many beautiful things to look at
Thank you for your lovely comment Janice,
Franziska
This is the second post on Pinterest to come my way recently, so I guess I can’t ignore it (my first plan!) I honestly don’t know about having another on-line activity, but the visual aspect sounds pleasing. What I want most is reassurance that this won’t suck me in to another black hole of lost time!

This is a sign!! Now you have to check it out
I don’t play with it every day and pin everything, so no, this doesn’t suck you into a hole. It’s really good to use it for organizing images you like, keep ideas and have the links to the pages where you took them from.
You’ll like it, lots of great benefits!

I keep hearing about pinterest, but I feel like it’s going to be one more site to maintain. Sigh…it’s getting exhausting. Then again, that’s what I said about twitter…

I know! Not another one…
Franziska, I am so glad to see that you’ve embraced Pinterest and have written a post about it. I believe that there is huge potential in this platform especially for people who are artistic. I’ve been sharing posts all week about this and I’m definitely keeping an eye on it for a couple of my clients.
I have not set up my own account yet because I’ve been tied up with client sites but one of the things that has piqued my interest is using this to build authority at a local level. Leora Wenger recently wrote a post about creating community boards on Pinterest. I haven’t investigated it yet but I certainly intend to. Do you know Leora? Her twitter id is @leoraw.

Hi Sherryl,
sorry for the late response, some art shows kept me busy and away from my computer!
I would love to see you there Sherryl, I find it interesting how you get to know someone on such a very different level -via images! I am very fascinated by it. One of the major advantages is that I don’t have to save all the images I need for later inspiration on my computer. Yay, less clutter!
Thanks for your lovely response,
Franziska
