CREATIVE MINDS – Jennifer Ressmann

Is it really already October? Time just flies but I am glad we are already going into the fall months after such a long and very hot summer in Texas.
This month, I would like you to meet Jennifer Ressmann with “Art for the Recycling Heart” and “Touch of Colorado”. We met via Twitter and connected more through facebook and our blogs. I love her great eye for fabulous shots and very creative way to create artwork with recycled materials. Enjoy the interview and make sure to check out her vibrant and colorful artwork, her blog and don’t forget to leave a comment!

About Jennifer:
• As a fine artist, I like to work through a passion and concept.
Currently my two main focuses are: “Art for the Recycling Heart” and “Touch of Colorado”
• Education: Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design, Milwaukee, WI
• Showing my work since 1994
• Teaching and Contracting also since 1994
• Many years working in the commercial Photo and Design world

What would you like to share about yourself?

Originally from the midwest, I moved to Colorado 15 years ago – falling in love with the Western Environment. I went to art school in the 90′s and have been working in an artistic field ever since. When I’m not Arting it Up I love to camp and hike with my family and friends. Being outdoors is an important part of my existence. (it’s one of the reasons I own a laptop – so I can take it out in the yard, or out to the mountains)

What is your favorite color and why?

That’s great, cuz I even mention it on my blog. I love the color brown, though I have to say I’m getting drawn towards more bold colors for my painting work and more modern colors for my home – right now I’m really attracted to white and that steely blue decorators are flaunting in kitchens and baths.

What’s your most seductive food?

My favorite food is sushi – could eat that all day, everyday. It used to be cereal – could eat that all day long, too. But, in the last few years I’ve become lactose intolerant. Makes it less fun when you’re puking after the meal.

Describe your dream place and where would it be?

My dream house is similar to the one I live in – simple and boxy, but surrounded by a lot of farm land and open space. Boy, if I could make that dream come true without killing myself!

The one thing you can’t live without?

I can’t live without my computer (or phone anymore). It might be different when I am retired, but staying in touch and exchanging ideas is paramount. Or maybe it’s mascara? That’s a must!

What ignites your fire?

I love creating through necessity and through resourcefulness. I love making something from nothing. And, I love making do – using what you have to make something happen. Love it! Maybe this is a frugal mindset? I come from farmers and entrepreneurs – they’re a bit resourceful.

What’s the silliest thing you’ve ever done?

Silly, boy. I used to be really silly. I was a very silly girl. I was the girl that threw caution to the wind – let’s just have fun. Then I had to work for a living and be places on time. But, sometimes, I still like to jump on the bed and have a cocktail early in the morning.

What’s your greatest advice that the world should know about?

“Be the change you want to see in the World” Gandhi

Why are you the best in your area of expertise?

I am one of the best in my field because not only am I really passionate about creating art but in a way that really pulls from the depths of what creativity is: making something new. New ideas, new looks, new materials. I also love the thought behind the work – recycling. It’s a bit of an obsession for me – how we can reuse and reduce. And, Colorado – really, I can’t get enough of this place – it makes me smile everyday!

Hi Nami – Yum. I have always wanted to try making Sushi at home. I’ve had a hard time finding the proper fish in our area. Maybe I need to try harder.
