I Also Do Restoration Services
Posted by Franziska on Jul 3, 2012 in Blog, Living & Design, Upcycling & DIY | 6 commentsI don’t think I’ve ever mentioned that I also restore furniture per request. A friend of mine asked me last week if I could fix, restore, sand and paint two of her antique chairs. She already had an idea how she wanted them to be done and after I had a look at them, I knew that I could do it.
I am not a carpenter but over the past two years, I have fixed, repurposed and upholstered many different pieces and sold them at the market. Every day, I learn something new and the power tools my husband gave me for christmas are in use every single day -they’re my best friends right now (besides our iRobot vacuum cleaners, we have two!).
So, I have decided to take more fixing and restoring jobs in. Of course, I’d need to see the pieces first before I can tell whether I can do it or not. In the past, I’ve also built frames for artwork on canvas (the stretcher frames) for some customers.
(someone just recently asked me if I could sew curtains for their house. NO I don’t, sorry!) But feel free to ask about fixing or building jobs, I may be able to do it. Asking is free!!
So, here’s my friend’s chairs that I’ve been working on:

Rough sanding the flat surface:

Both chairs sanded, ready to be painted:

And here, I just replaced a missing part, looks like new:

So here are both chairs, painted with a bright yellow and a white-yellow backrest (one of them is still missing a piece, I will fix it tomorrow after I went to Home Depot):

And this is what my friend wanted; Claude Monet’s dining room chairs at Giverney, I think my result is pretty close:

You are so creative and talented!! The chairs really do look like the ones in Monet’s dining room! Good work, my friends
