Selling Your Art Prints Online

Just recently I was asked by one of my twitter friends if I could write something about art prints and what my recommendations are. Personally, I use Fine Art America for orders within the US and MyGall for my German friends.

All you have to do is take photos of your beautiful artwork, upload them (for example on Fine Art America), add the commission you would like to make on each piece and they do the rest for you. Anyone can order your art prints through their website, choose the size, medium and even frame. With Fine Art America, you can open an account for free and upload for free (unlike many other sites where they charge per upload). If you would like a stand-alone website with them like I do, you can set this up, too, but you have to pay a yearly fee of course (this avoids your visitors getting distracted, leaving it and browsing FAA..).

This is how my personal site looks like with my own site name separate from FAA:

And additionally, my site is featured directly on Fine Art America and listed by name and location:

What I personally love about them is that they care about quality. You have to have a high resolution camera and your photos have to be spot on. Once, they had an order in and they were not happy with the quality. They personally contacted me and asked me to take the photo again with higher pixels and better color quality. As soon as they had a great photo, they began the printing process. And they gave me a deadline of 24 hours -I think this is great because they really care about their customers. And they should because it is their reputation but in the end, it’s also your reputation!
So, I learned my lesson, bought studio lights and made sure every single photo is taken professionally (don’t want it to happen again!).

Now, I could write a lengthy blog post about my research and all the sites I found online and the pros and cons in comparison. Someone else has done this for me already and I think I should definitely share this with you:
“Selling Photography Online (website reviews)” written by Big Sun Photography. I am forever grateful he did all this work for us already, so now we can decide which service fits us best.

Do you already use print service and which one do you use? Would love to hear your thoughts!

      Hi Janet,

that’s great that you like their quality. It doesn’t surprise me, they are very accurate with their print process (and very specific). Are the prints your artwork or from someone else? I was thinking about getting some of my own to showcase them.

      Thanks for your lovely comment,
      Franziska

Franziska I wanted to purchase the prints for myself for two reasons. One was to see the quality of the product. I don’t feel confident selling a product that I can’t guarantee the quality. Second, I also create digital art on the iPad and wanted to see how it would turn out printed. I was very satisfied. The color was amazing as well as the clarity. Also, I purchased museum wrapped, which was done perfectly and ready to hang.

Thanks so much, that’s good to know!
So, far I got the cards and some posters, also because I wanted to see how they look (and I use them of course). Haven’t checked the museum wrapped prints but am even more encouraged now to order one.

  3. That is a really great service Franziska…

It’s kind of like you have your own website but they really keep you on your toes since it’s their reputation as well. I’m sure they don’t just accept everyone with those restrictions for high quality photos of your art work. I think that’s great.

Happy Valentine’s Day! Hope you’re enjoying it with your honey!
